A doubles combination means one tractor pulling two semi-trailers connected by a converter dolly; a triples combination adds a third trailer behind that. To drive either legally, you must add Endorsement T to your CDL — which requires passing a separate written knowledge test.
Key exam topics include: the correct procedure for coupling and uncoupling trailers, identifying air brake system failures, understanding the "crack-the-whip" (rearward amplification) effect on rear trailers, and knowing state-by-state length restrictions — typically no more than 28.5 feet per trailer.
All 20 questions in this practice test are based on the FMCSA 2026 CDL Manual, Chapter 7, and closely reflect the format of the actual written exam. We recommend studying the official handbook alongside these practice questions for the best results.
